I was inspired to dig out a design of Prometheus bringing the gift of fire to humans by a historical fact that popped up about the world's oldest tree, named Prometheus (about 4,862 years old) that was accidentally cut down in Nevada on this day in 1964.
How do you accidently cut down the world's oldest tree? A graduate student, Donald R. Currey, to cut the tree down after he was having trouble taking a core sample to ironically study the tree's age. He didn't realize until he cut the tree down and counted the rings that he learned it was the oldest tree. It was a bristlecone pine if you are curious.
I imagine this is what I would look like if I lived to be 4,862 years. Well maybe more like this:
