Why I like kimchi stew

I order the #10, the kimchi stew, with sticks, to go. I order it with the kimchi, not the salad. It's made to order so it takes a little longer, but it is worth it.

The less adventurous order the spicy chicken or pork. It's more like teriyaki and makes them feel more comfortable. But I like the kimchi stew. It's very hot. It's hot as in temperature hot and hot as in spicy, burn through your bowels hot. You know you are alive when you eat kimchi stew.

It it is red like a chile pepper explosion. It has shreds of pork and cubes of tofu. And of course there is kimchi. Kimchi is cabbage with a hot Korean attitude.

And there is the kimchi on the side. I like it, too. I like eating it with chop sticks and chasing it down with a swig of the scalding stew. It opens my senses and my pores.

I like kimchi stew.

But I'm not sure it likes me.

I've never been much of a hot pepper freak. I like spicy, I like the flavor some peppers impart to food, but you can have the flaming torch in the mouth. It's funny, but the Wife seems to have an asbestos lining in her mouth, eats hot food straight from the pot that would make me scream, yet I'm the one who relishes an extra splash of hot sauce (half the time regretting it). Go figure. And take your jalopenoes with you......

Lights, The beauty of kimchi stew is that it combines hot spices with cabbage. It's the equivalent to swallowing a stick of dynomite. I might have to dig out my "pull my finger" graphic.

Lights does sweat a lot when eating something spicy. It's quite funny to watch.

I love spicy food and can take it pretty hot. Never had kimchi though.

Shandi, You are going to have forgive me for not wanting to picture Lights getting all sweaty. Kimchi is kind of an acquired taste. You might want to try putting some hot sauce on sauerkraut to get an idea what it tastes like. :)

humm. completely ignorant of kimchi stew. I guess that's what I get for ignoring Korean restaurants. Except for the many (non-stew) kimchis, they always seemed to be all about meat. Enough meat that it's almost impossible to go in a group without finding a pissy vegan or two in the crowd. Now I learn I've missed a critical food.

Must search out kimchi stew.

Hayden, traditional kimchi is more about the cabbage than the meat. But the solution to going out to eat anywhere is to leave the vegans and vegitarians at home shaping tofu into meat-like shapes. They are about as much fun going out to eat with as it would be going to Las Vegas with a recovering alcoholic.
