Tribute to the Elvis tree

Writing about the Elvis tree seems to be becoming almost as much a tradition as decorating it each year. I posted photos of me taking it down one year. Shoot, I even posted a video of it one. But my earliest post was in 2005

I won't go into the history again here. Click on the links above if you want to know something of its origins. Suffice it to say that it has been around my various houses for more than a decade.

Nothing much has changed over the years. Oh, I've added a few Elvis ornaments here and there, but basically it has stayed the same.

But last year I recognized that the King of trees was started to show its age and was shedding more fake white needles than a real tree. So a couple of weeks ago (right after the debacle of Disney on Ice) I dragged my family to a Walmart (which is only fitting since the original one came from K-Mart) and found a new 6.5-foot white artificial tree. We decorated it the day before Thanksgiving.

Whereas the old Elvis tree was more of the fat and bloated King model, the new Elvis tree is more of the 68 comeback special Elvis tree, slim and trim and born again.

But it still has all of my favorite Elvis ornaments on it. And my miniature Graceland fits neatly beneath it. And best of all, is my Elvis in Hawaii mini-figure is still perched neatly beneath the tree top star.

I think the King would be proud.

This has to be the most fabulously kitsch tree ever... I am green with envy; long may it reign 😊

Thank you, Alex, for getting it! Most people just shake their head :) But I think you should be blue with envy, instead.
