Tess and I just got back from a quick getaway to the coast in Bellingham, Washington to celebrate our first anniversary. And as we stood on the balcony of our room, we were lucky enough to catch the sun blink.
It's a rare thing these days to watch a sunset. Most of the time we're too busy to think about it. But then again that's what makes it such a nice suprise every time I catch it. And even though I fancy myself more or less a curmudgeon, I still can appreciate something so simple and yet so complicatedly beautiful.
The sun blinked, but the beauty remained. And the lyrics of one of my favorite Beatles' songs came to mind.
Golden slumbers fill your eyes
Smiles awake you when you rise
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullabye
-- Golden Slumbers, Lennon and McCartney
Hey, give me a break. I can't be the village idiot all of the time.
