A day in the life

I read the news today oh boy
Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all,
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall.
I’d love to turn you on...
Day in the life, the Beatles

Maybe it's the six disc Beatles Anthology I've been watching or maybe its still my biorhythm still hiccuping, but I've had that song stuck in my head all night. But it did strike me that the Beatles were simply blogging most of their careers to music.

Think about it (and I promise no Quantum Physics today...that seems to make people's heads hurt), the Beatles started out recording these kind of mindless, naive songs that made people kind of feel good, like I want to hold your hand and She loves you, yeah, yeah, and ended up recording songs like Everybody's got something to hide except me and my monkey and Why don't we just do it in the road? And each song they wrote became more personal and revealed more about themselves. But the more they revealed the less people seemed charmed by the mythological "Beatles." But bottomline, they were just blogging along with a beat.

Of course there were the freaks who thought the Beatles were speaking directly to them like Charlie Manson. And let's not forget David Chapman who became so aggitated about the songs that he had to end John Lennon's life. It's pretty sad when people can't just march to their own drummer and have to fall in line behind someone elses and then get pissed when they miss a beat.

Now I'm not equating my blog to the Beatles or me to the Beatles. And I'm not saying I'm better than the Beatles or as popular as the Beatles (very few of you will get that reference). I just relate to the Beatles because I grew up with their music. I wrote a post back in September of 2004 about judging a person by their favorite Beatle. John was and will always be my favorite Beatle. I think he had the best sense of humor and yet, a dark side that gave him an edge (goo goo ga choo).

Anyway, I started out writing this this morning intending to talk about the mundaneness of everyday life and why people shouldn't just write about the "4,000 holes in Blackburn, Lancashire," but instead should write about how the holes were created and why. But I became a day tripper on a magical mystery tour down a long and winding road that took me where I will go. So I'll just let it be and say all we need is love. Or maybe help. It's just been a hard days night. It was a good reason for taking the easy way out.

By the way, this has been an entirely accoustical blog entry with no strings attached.

Somebody stop me...

Quite frankly, I think you are more popular than the Beatles...at least from my point of view. Although I don't know how much that means coming from a guy who often thinks he is Jesus Christ.

Hey, it means a lot. And considering the Pope thinks he has a calling plan with unlimited minutes to talk to JC, I don't think there is anything wrong with you being Jesus now and then.

I got your reference. Frankly, I thought that whole incident was rather silly. Funny, but Mexicans don't catch any heat for naming their kids Jesus, even tho they pronounce it "hey-zeus". Do they think their kids deserve to lug around a name like that?

I loved the Beatles because they changed the face of music and I got to grow up with them, both of us evolving as time passed. How many bands since then, with the possible exception of Pink Floyd, got to re-invent themselves every time they came out with a new album, and get away with it?

When I was young, I DID personalize so many of their lyrics, which seemed to speak to me depending on whatever I was going thru at the time, as did the music of many different bands, but at least I had the common sense to know they were not communicating directly to ME, or anybody else. Besides, we all got the meaning of those songs wrong, anyway, not to mention the lyrics, half of which to this very day I probably should get the written lyrics to know for sure what those words were, like "blinded by the light".......

THE Michael, any man who likes the Beatles is alright by me. And do you think the lyric is "Jejude" instead of "Hey Jude"?

But "blinded by the light" was a Manfred Mann song as in, "Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night."

Even reading the words I don't understand it.

Go ahead and watch those Anthology disks. And then let us agree to never speak of the Beatles again. Please.

Right on, Brother, way out, groovy!

And littleone, the Beatles themselves got so fed up with all the screaming (they couldn't even hear themselves play), they stopped touring altogether, and only recorded in the studio.
