I, Tim Id

Self-image is an odd thing. How can we look in a mirror and truly see ourselves when everything...literally everything is filtered through our mind.

Ironically, I think this is why I hate photos of myself. And ironically, this is why I think I Photoshop so many photos of myself. I want to fix those flaws my mind's eye sees.

I realize this isn't particularly entertaining or enlightening for anyone but me. But I'm really fighting this trap of blogging what you think people want to read.

What is it though that makes you read other people's blogs? Sometimes I read someone's blog and I feel like a voyeur peeping through a virtual window. But then I realize that I wouldn't be looking if they hadn't left their virtual shades up. What is the point of blogging if no one reads it? If you write a blog and no one reads it, does it still make a point? What is the sound of one hand blogging? Show me the face you had before you were blogging?

Shit. I sound like a broken record. And the full moon has waned. What do I blame it on now?

I hope it isn't offensive to say that I write and post without much regard for whether anyone wants to see it or not. Not that I don't care about others' opinions, I do. Not that I don't love to get comments, I do. But because its a place to dump whatever I'm obsessing on at the moment. I either release it here so I can get on with my life, or I work through questions (like the becoming thing) that have gripped me.

For me the writing is enough, because I rarely know what I think until I write it down.

As a result, the topics and mood are all over the place and I am in complete 'defiance' of the bloggers 'rule' to 'create a brand.'

oh well.

but - I love reading your posts, and never more than when you surprise me with introspection. Your humor snagged me, but the introspection is compelling. and the pictures make me laugh. (ok, the one of the new years baby that made a brief appearance made me shudder, but....)

Most usually I worry about what people will think when they read my blog. Apparently my most popular posts are those that I think may be offensive. Lately, I've been thinking, "Do I really want people to know this?"

Love the photoshop. It's very artsy.

Hayden, I appreciate that a great deal. I struggle with feeling defiant and then self-indulgent. I also don't really know what I'm going to write until I start writing. I usually start with a photo. I've found the photos help me express my moods and the word follow. I'm glad you like the introspection. I don't think any of us should create a "brand" that makes us one dimensional.

Lights,

El Nino...the incomprehensible thing the weather people always babble about being responsible for everything. No necessito ir al bano.

Shandi,
I think people crave your honesty, so I wouldn't worry about what they think. Odds are that a few whack jobs are going to stumble into any blog and find something that offends them.

Glad you like the image. It was a photograph of me taken on a cruise about 10 years ago. My profile looked less like Alfred Hitchcock's back then. I just started mess with filters and liked the result. The beauty is that I doubt I could recreate it again. So I guess it qualifies as original art in a way.

Trust me, there is no need for you to fix anything on photos of yourself.

Thanks Anna, After reading that article you linked to about gray hair, at least I know I don't have to Photoshop that :)

Whitesnake, I do read your crap all of the time :) I don't think it is crap, though my friend.

I don't worry too much about what others might think about my blog. I do it more for me than for anyone else. I do it as a kind of diary for myself or even as therapy. Just a way to get things off of my mind.
I love and adore all aspects of your blog Tim. Your talent and the topics you write about day in and day out are always refreshing. And the silly photoshopping is just an added bonus! Even though i agree with anna, that none of your photos ever really need fixing.
Hugs,
